Track Day 101
The Basics
If you’re joining us for Arrive & Drive, the Kartech team handles almost everything—kart prep, fuel, mechanical setup, tire pressures, and safety checks. Just show up hydrated, rested, and ready to have fun.

If you’re an owner-driver, you already know the drill—but we’re here to help with setup, adjustments, or coaching as needed.

Required Gear
Arrive & Drive drivers:
Kartech provides all required safety gear for you.
You’re welcome to bring your own gear, and our team will double-check that everything meets track safety regulations.
The track requires full racing safety gear, including:
-
Helmet (SA-Rated preferred)
-
Racing suit
-
Racing gloves
-
Closed-toe shoes (old or “beater” sneakers are ideal — they can get dirty, wet, and oily)

What to Wear
Drivers can comfortably wear:
-
T-shirt and shorts (fully acceptable)
-
Athletic or sweat-wicking clothing recommended
-
Optional: Long sleeves can help getting in/out of the suit, but short sleeves are often better in the heat
Additional Recommendations
-
Bring a full change of clothes — between sweat, rain, and general track grime, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll want to change afterward
-
Avoid bulky or restrictive clothing — mobility matters
-
For our South Florida "cold" weather please consider the 50+mph wind chill you will feel while driving. A light sweater or extra layer can make things a lot more comfortable

Extra Things You Might Want at the Track
-
Phone charger / portable power bank
-
You’ll be filming, tracking lap times, messaging the team — phones die fast at the track.
-
-
Headphones or earbuds
-
Great for music, calls, or just relaxing between runs.
-
-
GoPro/Action camera & other cameras
-
Many of our karts and helmets do have GoPro mounts, but not all — so if video is important, bring your own camera and your own mount.
-
If you have guests taking pictures they'll be able to get somewhat close to the track but not go inside the track so a good zoom lens is recommended.
-
-
Towel
-
For sweat, light rain, wet seats, dirty hands — towels always get used.
-
-
Hat & sunglasses
-
It’s bright out on track all day; this goes a long way.
-
-
Small cooler
-
Kartech provides plenty of cold water for everyone, but cooler space can be limited.
-
If you prefer your own drinks, feel free to bring them — absolutely no alcohol allowed at any time.
-

A Day at The Track
A track day is structured but relaxed. Here’s the general flow so you know exactly what to expect from start to finish.

Arrival, Check In, and Getting Ready
Arrival
Plan to arrive 60–90 minutes before your first session so you have plenty of time to settle in.
-
Parking:
-
Parking near the Kartech tent may be limited depending on how many drivers are at the track.
However, parking outside the paddock area is ample and always available.
-
-
Track Entry:
-
At the gate, you’ll receive a wristband and sign a waiver. (Separate track entry fees apply for both drivers & spectators.)
-
-
Finding the Kartech Tent:
-
Once you enter, simply keep going straight — you can’t miss the Kartech sign and tent setup.

Track flags

Get Ready
Before heading out to your first session, you’ll have a few final steps:
-
Suit up! Either put on your own gear or get fitted if using ours.
-
Most drivers keep their racing suit on all day but helmet and gloves can wait until heading to the pit area before a session.l introduce ourselves, learn your goals for the day, and get you oriented.
-
-
Kart fitting - we'll get you in the kart you will sue for the day and make all adjustments to make sure you are comfortable

Track Sessions
Track time is organized into rotating sessions, with each group taking turns throughout the day. Here’s how your driving schedule will typically work.

Session Format
Each on-track session usually lasts 8-10 minutes, depending on the track’s schedule.
(Trust us, its plenty of time!)
Between sessions, you’ll have time to:
-
Cool down, hydrate/eat , get feedback, make small adjustments & get ready to head back to grid.
Expect a rhythm of:
Drive → Break → Drive → Break, repeating throughout the day.

Groups & Kart Classes
Drivers are assigned to groups based on experience, age, and engine class
-
First-timers will begin in either:
-
Adult Novice group, or
-
Kids Novice group
-
-
These groups run at a comfortable pace to help you learn the track, build confidence, and get feedback as you go. As you gain experience, you may be moved into more advanced groups.

Number of Sessions
An Arrive & Drive booking with Kartech includes 5 driving sessions for the day.
However, if the track is not very busy, there may be opportunities to run additional sessions beyond the included five.
If you want more seat time:
-
Talk to the Kartech team to can confirm availability
-
Extra sessions may be purchased depending on track capacity
Drivers often choose to add an extra session or two if the day is flowing smoothly.

Track Safety
Safety is the most important part of any track day. Our goal is to keep every driver comfortable, confident, and fully aware of how the track operates. Even if this is your first time, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know.

Safety Briefing
Before your first session, the Kartech team will cover:
-
How to enter and exit pit lane•What to do if you spin or go off track
-
Passing rules depending on your group
-
On-track etiquette
-
Where to slow down, where to stay alert, and how to safely return to the pits
This briefing takes just a few minutes and sets you up for a safe, enjoyable day.

Understanding Flags
Track marshals use colored flags to communicate what’s happening on track. You must follow flag instructions at all times.

-
Green Flag – Track is live; session is active.
-
Yellow Flag – Hazard ahead; slow down, no passing.
-
Red Flag – Session stopped. Come to a safe, controlled stop and follow marshal instructions.
-
Black Flag (Open) – Return to the pits immediately (possible mechanical or rule issue).
-
Black Flag (Rolled/Pointed) – Warning for unsafe driving.
-
Blue Flag – Faster kart approaching; hold your line and let them pass safely.
-
Checkered Flag – End of session; complete your lap and return to pits.

On-Track Etiquette
To keep yourself and others safe:
-
Hold your line.
-
Do not weave or make sudden, unpredictable moves.
-
No weaving to "warm up tires"
-
If you spin or go off track:
-
Stay calm, rejoin safely when clear, or wait for a marshal signal.
-
-
Stay predictable:
-
Smooth inputs, no abrupt braking or swervingRespect pit entry and exit lanes.
-
Never cut across traffic; always check behind you.
-
